HL7 Messaging Administrator (remote/telecommute)

We are currently seeking an HL7 Messaging Administrator for a full-time, 100% remote position.

Job Description

This position will actively engage with partners, clients and vendors to prepare, scope and estimate each project. This will include scope of work, type of implementation and timeline for completion. This position will maintain all internal tracking of the effort and coordinate closely with the project teams ensuring the success of each project. This position maintains the VA standards and specifications for HL7 message communications, make recommendations for optimization and appropriate use.


  • Managing multiple projects concurrently, monitoring the status of projects containing multiple resources and escalating issues when appropriate. 
  • Participates in testing of any new releases of the HL7 messaging system.
  • Accountable for the follow up and follow through on deliverables for multiple simultaneous efforts and providing detailed status reports on each project to ensure milestones are reached as planned.
  • Manage efforts across functional teams to develop and deploy solutions that meet the requirements of the project, and identify, evaluate and communicate with documentation, lessons learned from each project.
  • Developing and maintaining technical documentation
  • Actively participates in team meetings, bringing forward challenges and offering solutions for the EHR project.
  • Communicating with all levels of the organization, both written and verbally, in a clear and concise manner and delivering informative, well-organized project updates.
  • Communicating, prioritizing, tracking project progress and resolving issues in a timely manner. 
  • Work independently, reporting to the Project Manager on a regular basis.
  • Must work a flexible schedule when necessary.
  • Maintain courteous and effective interactions with colleagues and clients, while demonstrating a commitment toward meeting and exceeding the needs of our customers.
  • Performs all other duties as needed or directed to meet the needs of the project.


  • Understanding of HL7 messaging standards, set up, troubleshooting and management.
  • Strong knowledge of software development techniques and technical IT implementation experience in healthcare.
  • Ability to utilize Java in the development and configuration of HL-7 messages.
  • Knowledge of Messaging Work bench and Ensemble. 
  • Have exceptional multitasking and organizational abilities, as well as strong time management skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills required as well as the ability to maintain a professional demeanor when interacting with the user community.
  • Advanced degree is required and at least 1-2 years of HL-7 interface development across multiple platforms.
